Thanksgiving Camp Success!

The Bates Alpine Team has just gotten back from an amazing 9 days of training at Sunday River!
Two days of GS and 7 days of slalom and the Bates team is feeling amped for whats to come this season. The conditions were great for November skiing in the east coast and we are so happy we were able to get so much training. Shoutout to Sunday River for great snow making and conditions!
Moving forward, the ski season is coming at us quick, fis races kick off in less than two weeks and we have the annual Turkey Chase slalom this sunday!

Check out this awesome video highlighting our last week of training!

Fall is Upon Us

It is officially fall and classes are back in session here in Lewiston, however despite the season, the weather is incredibly hot-we're hoping this changes real soon.

The team has started its lifting and drylands programs and we are working to be in the best shape we can for this 2018 season.

This past weekend was Back to Bates weekend where many of our alumni and families were present at our tailgate to cheer on the Bates sports teams and hang out with past team mates.
Here are a few pictures from the weekend!

Summer Update 2017!

Summer Update 2017

It’s already August, and with only a month left until the bobcat alpine team heads east for fall semester we have been amping up the dryland and summer skiing hoping for an awesome 2018 season.

The whole team has been up to a lot this summer from summer skiing, internships, and various trips!

Here are just a few highlights of some of the bobcat skiers.

Incoming freshman Calvin Wilson and senior Hannah Johnson started out skiing in Mammoth! Hannah is now currently ripping it up in Chile for a few weeks.

Incoming freshman Amelia Kaplan, sophomore Tagert Mueller, and senior Sierra Ryder are all in New Zealand prepping for the season and appearing in a few New Zealand races. Tagert Mueller won a race in NZ scoring a personal best too!
Sophomore Emma Finfer skied in Hood for a week as well!

Ski Season Wrap Up

Just like that our 2016/2017 ski season has come to a close-officially.
After carnival season finished in February we have been busy at NCAAs, NorAms, Eastern Cups, US Nationals, and Canadian races. After a long month and a half of spring racing we have finally finished and are ready for some very much needed sun and break.
The semester is almost done as well (one more week!!) and the alpine team will be taking a little break before getting right back into training and getting in shape.
Next season starts now right?!

In the mean time we would like to thank everyone and anyone who has supported the Alpine team this year, we so greatly appreciate it!

Additionally we would like to give a shout out to Kelsey Chenoweth who is graduating this spring, congrats on everything Kels!

Thanks for a great season bobcats and bobcat supporters!

Bates Carnival/End of Carnival Season

And just like that our wonderful carnival season is over. Six weeks sure does fly by!

The Bates Carnival/EISA Regionals was very interesting this year...The GS race was a one run race due to the incredibly warm wet weather producing difficult racing conditions. Kelsey Chenoweth had a good one run race ending her GS Carnival season with a 10th place! And congrats to freshman Emma Finfer on an awesome GS run where she ended up 25th for college!!

The slalom races were equally exhilarating with some great skiing by many of our skiers. Michael Cooper had a great second run finishing overall in 7th place and 6th for college!
*Special thanks to Kurt and Dylan for their awesome announcing!

I'd also like to give a huge shoutout to our only senior this year Kelsey Chenoweth on her skiing career. Congratulations on an amazing ski racing career that you should be incredibly proud of. We are going to miss you so much you have no idea.

Looking towards the end of the season we have a few more fis series that we will be doing and NCAAs are in two weeks for our two qualifiers (Kelsey and Michael).

Middlebury Recap

Well, the Middlebury Carnival came and went. The weather was amazing as always and one of the highlights was Kelsey Chenoweth's 11th place finish in GS!

We have been on break this whole week ramping up for our home carnival this Friday/Saturday at Sunday River!
We are delighted to announce that two of the funniest amazing people we know, Kurt Niiler and Dylan Malone, will be announcing the races! This will help make the carnival the best of the year for sure. Additionally we expect to see many alums and parents and hope everyone can come up and watch as our bobcats kill it on our home mountain!

Dartmouth Carnival

Last weekend was the Dartmouth Carnival. Still not our favorite venue, especially those GS flats, but the slalom ended pretty well!

For the slalom junior Sierra Ryder had a career best finish in 10th place! Go Sierra!
Junior Hannah Johnson also had a pretty good day ending up in 18th, overall the girls got 5th, not our best team score but still pretty great!

On our mens side we had great skiing but unfortunately there were some DNFs, however we are confident they will channel that great skiing and bring it into this weekend at Middlebury!

Also don't forget the Bates Carnival is one week away!!!! We hope to see everyone there supporting our fellow skiers and having a great time, trust me this will be the carnival you want to attend.

Halfway Through Carnival Season

Hard to believe but we are already halfway through carnival season.
This past weekend at the Stowe/UVM carnival we had a weekend of mixed results.
First day of GS started out great, good surface and pretty descent weather, however the afternoon turned into a bit of a blizzard, making second run a little bit of a challenge for some. Regardless we pushed through and produced some good GS skiing.

Slalom was perfect conditions and weather for all, it was a truly beautiful day for ski racing.
Highlights from the slalom was sophomore Michael Cooper and his career best finish in 9th place! Additionally junior Hannah Johnson got 12th! Good work bobcats!

Moving forward we are ready to crush the next three carnivals, Dartmouth will be this coming weekend, then Middlebury, and finally to top things off our home carnival at Sunday River is in just three weeks! You definitely don't want to miss the Bates Carnival so mark your calendars everyone! (Feb 24-25)

First Carnival Complete- St. Lawrence

Our first carnival of the season is complete, and many great things happened.
To start, senior Kelsey Chenoweth got her career best 5th place in GS! We are all so excited about this. Additionally the women's team placed 4th in GS, which was also amazing after some of our girls' second runs were not quite as good as they can be.

Slalom was interesting considering the snow conditions were bad with slush and weird cross ruts forming. Despite the difficult conditions we powered through, with junior Sierra Ryder placing 11th on second run and 14th overall. On the mens side we had freshman Gaven Chen place 35th overall.

Looking ahead we are excited at the momentum we are building and are all confident that we will continue to improve. This weekend will be at UNH/Cannon, updates to follow.

Winter Updates!

Ski season is now in full swing for the bobcats as we enter the new year.
The first races we have this month are the Nor Ams at Burke mountain and a few races at Whiteface. Along with the races we have some great training set up at Sunday River, and after this huge winter storm we have had here in Maine the conditions are expected to be great!
In other news our team is officially all together now that our two juniors who were abroad (Hannah and Sierra) are back with us.
Everyone is so excited for the carnival season to start as well. The first carnival will be held at Whiteface in Lake Placid NY, hosted by St. Lawrence. Since the first carnival is a little bit later this year we will be taking full advantage of all the training time we have before the college races kick into full swing.

**More updates on race results will be posted as the season progresses, in the mean time Happy New Year!!

Go Bobcats!

Summer Update

With less than month left until everyone heads back to school here is a little summary of what the alpine team has been doing the past few months.

For starters two of our fabulous skiers (Sierra and Hannah) are now abroad for fall semester, Sierra down under in Melbourne Australia, and Hannah just made it to Namibia Africa!
While in Melbourne Sierra was able to get in touch with one of our incoming freshman skiers, Annabel Mahon, and got to ski with her for a few days at Mt. Buller!

Many of our other skiers were able to hit the slopes over the summer too.
Two incoming freshmen, Griffin and Tagert Mueller, were able to ski at Whistler, and Hannah was also at Whistler this summer.

We have so much to look forward to this season including the fact that we have 8 incoming freshmen, yes thats right 4 boys and 4 girls. We have quite the full team this season and we will definitely be taking advantage of that!

Go Bobcats!

NCAA Regionals/Middlebury Carnival

Our final carnival was this past weekend at the Middlebury Snow Bowl.
This carnival marked the last carnival for our seniors Chris Bradbury, Cody Bullen, and Tanner Dirtstine. We will miss you guys!

Result wise some of our women had impressive GS results, and Chris Bradbury had a good GS race as well.

Unfortunately no one from our team will be heading to NCAAs after this years qualification proved to be extremely competitive, especially on the women's side where a few of us just barely missed the last few spots.
Overall our team had a good season full of consistent skiing and solid results. We had some great team scores on the women's side such as our 3rd place at the UVM carnival and being consistently in the top 5 for both GS and SL. After this years results full of career bests and team bests we are very excited for the next carnival season and the remainder of the fis races we will be doing.

Thanksgiving Camp recap

This past Thanksgiving week the alpine team was in Colorado getting some awesome training in at Echo Mountain. We all had a great time in Colorado, plus the weather was super nice!
Now we are ready to train at Sunday River and race next weekend!
Take a look at the video that highlights our past week!!
