LEWISTON, Maine — Bates sophomore Avril Dunleavy earned Second Team All-East honors, and head coach Rogan Connell was named EISA Alpine Co-Coach of the Year, as the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association released its year-end awards on Sunday.
Connell, Bates’ 12th-year head coach, guided the Bates women’s alpine team through an outstanding EISA carnival season, which culminated with last weekend’s Bates Carnival and NCAA East Regional Championships. In five out of 11 officially scored carnival alpine events this season, the Bates women placed third on five occasions, and fourth two other times. Connell shares the award with Middlebury’s Abby Copeland.
Dunleavy (Salt Lake City, Utah) led the way for the team, with a whopping eight top-10 carnival event finishes out of a possible 12 en route to her second NCAA appearance in as many years. Dunleavy had a career-best fourth-place finish in the giant slalom at the Colby Carnival, but also four other top-six performances to her credit.
